Not a government website. We aren't affiliated with Suffolk County, Nassau County, any town, or New York State, and we can't approve or speed up a grant. Grants go through the official programs, Suffolk SIP (Reclaim Our Water) and Nassau SEPTIC, and the installer you hire handles the grant process with you.

The Nassau SEPTIC grant, not Suffolk's

Nassau's program pays up to $20,000, first come, first served, for replacing a cesspool or septic system with an I/A system installed after March 1, 2018. Suffolk's $45,000 stack doesn't apply here. Nassau also has no county approved-installer list like Suffolk's. Instead, the installer needs a Nassau County Home Improvement Contractor license, and the system must be one of the accepted technologies.

Harbors and the C.E.S.S.P.O.O.L. project

Groundwater here drains to Oyster Bay Harbor, Cold Spring Harbor and Hempstead Harbor. The harbor protection committees, Friends of the Bay, the Coalition to Save Hempstead Harbor and the Town of Oyster Bay ran a joint awareness project (C.E.S.S.P.O.O.L.) because so many North Shore cesspools aren't maintained, and they add nitrogen and bacteria to the bays.

The Town is replacing its own cesspools

The Town of Oyster Bay received a $2.3 million state Water Quality Improvement grant to replace the outdated cesspools and leaching fields at Harry Tappen Beach in Glenwood Landing. It's a good signal of where water-quality money is flowing on this shoreline.

Villages, estates and access

Many North Shore communities here are incorporated villages (Bayville, Sea Cliff, Lattingtown, Mill Neck, Muttontown and more) with their own building departments. Large estate lots give room for a new system but often mean long runs, mature trees and careful restoration, all of which show up in a quote.

Installers near Oyster Bay

One installer on Suffolk's SIP-Approved list is based in East Norwich, in the town. For Nassau grant work, the requirement is a Nassau County HIC license. We don't publish or rank them. When you send a request, it goes to licensed installers who serve your area.

Oyster Bay cesspool & septic FAQ

Can I use Suffolk's $45,000 grant in Oyster Bay?

No. Suffolk's SIP and the State share administered with it are for Suffolk properties. In Nassau, the program is Nassau SEPTIC: up to $20,000, first come, first served.

I'm in Massapequa. Do I have a cesspool?

Probably not. The South Shore of the Town of Oyster Bay is mostly sewered. Check your tax bill for a sewer district charge, or ask the Town.

Who runs the Nassau grant?
