Town of East Hampton Septic Incentive Program

  • Start with the Town's eligibility verification form (Form 1).
  • Covers approved costs of replacing a septic system with a low-nitrogen system.

Program contact: Town of East Hampton Natural Resources / Septic Incentive Program. Your installer handles the town paperwork with you.

The calculator uses $20,000 (Water Protection District). Outside it, the cap is $15,000.

Full County and State rules, the 8-step process and a grant estimator are on the Suffolk septic grant guide.

Not a government website. We aren't affiliated with Suffolk County, Nassau County, any town, or New York State, and we can't approve or speed up a grant. Grants go through the official programs, Suffolk SIP (Reclaim Our Water) and Nassau SEPTIC, and the installer you hire handles the grant process with you.

Water Protection District vs. the rest of town

The Town pays more, up to $20,000, inside its Water Protection District. Everywhere else in town the cap is $15,000. The Town's Form 1 (eligibility verification) tells you which applies to your property before you spend anything on design.

Why upgrades here have been slow, and what changed

When the Town's program launched in 2017, uptake was slow: six months in, only one system had been installed, against an estimated 12,000 residential systems in town that needed updating. Officials blamed costs (installs ran closer to $22,000 than the $17,000 forecast) and the engineering step required before installation. The State raised its share to 75% (up to $25,000) in 2025 and the County grant is now $20,000, so the out-of-pocket math is very different today.

New construction must go I/A

East Hampton requires advanced (nitrogen-reducing) wastewater treatment for most new residential construction, in step with the County's 2021 rule. That's a requirement, not a grant: new construction on a vacant lot isn't eligible for County money.

Six SIP-approved installers on the County's September 2026 list have East Hampton addresses, plus one in Sag Harbor. We don't publish or rank them. When you send a request, it goes to licensed installers who serve your area, and only SIP-approved ones for grant jobs.
