Not a government website. We aren't affiliated with Suffolk County, Nassau County, any town, or New York State, and we can't approve or speed up a grant. Grants go through the official programs, Suffolk SIP (Reclaim Our Water) and Nassau SEPTIC, and the installer you hire handles the grant process with you.
No Town rebate (as of our last check)
We looked for a separate Town of Huntington septic rebate and didn't find one (checked 2026-10-19). That means the County and State grants are the money available here. If the Town starts a program, we'll add it.
Northport's waterfront is going to sewer
The Village of Northport has been sewering its last waterfront area, with officials saying septic effluent there reaches the bay in a matter of months. The village estimated about $10,000 per house to connect. If you're in that area, you'll be connecting rather than installing a septic system, and that changes your grant eligibility.
Old block cesspools can collapse, and here one did
Many Huntington homes built before the late 1970s have cesspools made of cement block or brick. These can cave in without warning, especially in saturated soil. A Huntington man died after being trapped in a collapsed cesspool. If you see a depression or sinking ground over your system, keep people and vehicles off it and get it inspected now.
Harbors, hills and access
Groundwater here moves north to Huntington, Northport, Centerport and Cold Spring Harbors on Long Island Sound. Hilly lots and long, steep driveways on the North Shore make excavator and truck access a real pricing factor, along with mature trees over the leaching area.
Installers near Huntington
SIP-approved installers on the County's September 2026 list are based in Greenlawn and Huntington Station, inside the town. We don't publish or rank them. When you send a request, it goes to licensed installers who serve your area, and only SIP-approved ones for grant jobs.

Huntington cesspool & septic FAQ
Does the Town of Huntington offer a septic rebate?
We looked for a separate Town of Huntington septic rebate and didn't find one (checked 2026-10-19). That means the County and State grants are the money available here. If the Town starts a program, we'll add it.
My house in Northport is near the harbor. Should I replace my cesspool now?
Check first whether your street is in the village's sewering area. If it is, connecting (about $10,000 per house, per the village's estimate) replaces the septic decision, and homes in a sewer district can't get the septic grant.
Is a sinking spot over my cesspool an emergency?
Treat it as one. Keep everyone, including pets and vehicles, away from it and call an installer for an inspection. Old block cesspools can collapse suddenly. Call 911 if anyone falls in.
