Town of Southampton I/A OWTS Rebate (Community Preservation Fund)
- The property must be in a Priority Area (check it with the Town's GIS tool). A collapsing system outside one may still qualify, so call.
- Must replace an existing system. New construction on vacant land isn't eligible.
- Covers costs tied to the upgrade, including removal, design, labor and materials, a 3-year maintenance contract and restoration. It doesn't cover costs already paid by County or State grants.
- The Town expanded its priority-area maps to match County standards on March 10, 2026, so more homes qualify.
- Rebates are paid about 60–90 days after the final paperwork, which is due within one year of County final approval.
Program contact: Community Preservation Department, 631-287-5720, septicrebate@southamptontownny.gov. Your installer handles the town paperwork with you.
Full County and State rules, the 8-step process and a grant estimator are on the Suffolk septic grant guide.
Not a government website. We aren't affiliated with Suffolk County, Nassau County, any town, or New York State, and we can't approve or speed up a grant. Grants go through the official programs, Suffolk SIP (Reclaim Our Water) and Nassau SEPTIC, and the installer you hire handles the grant process with you.
The 2026 priority-map expansion
The Town rebate only covers properties in a Water Quality Improvement Priority Area. On March 10, 2026 the Town Board (RES 2026-0565) expanded those maps to follow Suffolk County's standards, which significantly increased the number of homes that qualify. If you checked before and were told no, check again with the Town's GIS search tool.
Outside a priority area, the Town says a collapsing system may still qualify, so call the Community Preservation office before you assume you're out.
What the Town rebate does and doesn't cover
It covers costs tied directly to the upgrade: removing the old system, design, labor and materials, a 3-year maintenance contract and restoring the property. It doesn't cover expediting fees, unrelated landscaping, or anything the County or State grant already paid. Final paperwork is due within a year of County final approval, and rebates arrive about 60–90 days after that.
Bays, groundwater and the Peconic maintenance credit
South of the highway, groundwater from Hampton Bays, East Quogue, Quogue and Westhampton drains into Shinnecock, Quantuck and Moriches bays. North of it, Flanders, Riverside and Noyack drain to the Peconic Bays. The Peconic Estuary Partnership has also announced up to $500 a year toward a renewed I/A maintenance contract for homes in its area, after the 3 grant-funded years (check that it's open).
Low-lying bay-front lots often have shallow groundwater, which is when a pressurized shallow drainfield gets specified. Expect that to add cost (and, under the County program, grant money).
Installers near Southampton
Southampton has more SIP-approved installers than any other town: 11 on the County's September 2026 list are based in Southampton, Hampton Bays, Westhampton Beach, Quogue and Speonk, plus one in Sag Harbor. We don't publish or rank them. When you send a request, it goes to licensed installers who serve your area, and only SIP-approved ones for grant jobs.

Southampton cesspool & septic FAQ
Can I stack the Southampton rebate with the County and State grants?
Yes. The Town's application asks whether you've applied to the County SIP and State SSRP, and the Town rebate covers eligible costs those grants didn't pay. Together that can be up to $45,000 from County and State plus up to $20,000–$25,000 from the Town, but never more than the project actually costs.
Who do I call about the Southampton rebate?
The Department of Community Preservation in Hampton Bays: 631-287-5720 or septicrebate@southamptontownny.gov. For technical I/A questions, the County Office of Wastewater Management is 631-852-5700.
Does new construction qualify?
No. Building on a vacant lot requires an I/A system under County rules but isn't eligible for the Town rebate or the County grant. The rebate is for replacing an existing system.
