Not a government website. We aren't affiliated with Suffolk County, Nassau County, any town, or New York State, and we can't approve or speed up a grant. Grants go through the official programs, Suffolk SIP (Reclaim Our Water) and Nassau SEPTIC, and the installer you hire handles the grant process with you.
No Town rebate (as of our last check)
We looked for a separate Town of Smithtown septic rebate and didn't find one (checked 2026-10-19). That means the County and State grants are the money available here. If the Town starts a program, we'll add it.
Downtown sewers: Smithtown and Kings Park
The Town and County have been working to sewer the downtown business districts of Smithtown and Kings Park, expanding the Kings Park treatment plant from 0.6 to 1.2 million gallons per day, with officials projecting a 78–87% cut in the nitrogen reaching the Nissequogue River. Those projects target the downtowns. The surrounding residential neighborhoods stay on septic, which is where the grant applies.
The Nissequogue River and Stony Brook Harbor
Smithtown's groundwater feeds the Nissequogue River and Stony Brook Harbor. Homes close to the river and harbor in Kings Park, Nissequogue, Head of the Harbor and St. James are the ones most likely to land in a higher grant priority area.
Villages have their own building departments
Head of the Harbor, Nissequogue and the Village of the Branch are incorporated villages. Your design professional files with the County and identifies any village permits, but expect the village to have a say on things like tree removal and restoration on estate lots.
Installers near Smithtown
One SIP-approved installer on the County's September 2026 list is based in St. James; others in neighboring Islip and Huntington also serve Smithtown. We don't publish or rank them. When you send a request, it goes to licensed installers who serve your area, and only SIP-approved ones for grant jobs.
